THE PAIN OF X-MAS IN UGANDA

As prices of virtually every good and service skyrocket, merry x-mas comes as a 'robbing opportunity' for service providers and shop attendants to mint every single penny from her clients.

A season that demonstrates the spending power on consumables has been reduced to a wasteful and bitter month of trying to satisfy ones self with niceties rather than a time to celebrate & share love with family and loved ones with or without the 'dime'.

As fuel especially petrol becomes more scarce due to probably a new trend of economic politics surrounding our corrupt nation, transport costs have also over the weeks doubled due to the greed of taxi and bus drivers. The sleepy trade unionists and the ministries of trade and transport have failed to come up with a better management system on how to deal with the pathetic alarming situations that has affected the have nots.

However for those whose mind has been set to expressing the love of Christ through sharing and giving, there is no better month than this to reflect on God's goodness. The relationship that ties man and God is not zeroed down to just man and God but to also man and man. As a Christian, am overly joyed by our my Muslim brothers express love during such seasons - a time to give, receive, love and touch hurting hearts.

The competition that surrounds x-mas in our homes today is how big the turkey that we ate was... how much we spent .... how wealthy we are... yet too much is wasted given the quantities purchased over this time which demeans why God sent his Emmanuel to us.

Merry X-mas to you and my theme for this x-mas is 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself and how God has loved us '.

God Bless.
